Kin: Abandoned Cart Notifications

Kin app

This article applies to the Kin app (now part of Reactiv). If your app was built with Reactiv, see the Reactiv support docs instead.

When a shopper adds items to their cart but doesn't check out, the Kin app can remind them with a push notification. The reminder is scheduled on the shopper's device, so it works whether or not they're signed in, as long as they've allowed notifications.

What the notification looks like

By default:

  • Thumbnail: the image of the first item in the cart.
  • Title: "Don't forget!"
  • Message: "You recently added [first item name] and [x] others. Don't miss out."

You can change the title and message. See What You Can Change Without an App Update.

When it's sent

Set the messages in Engage → Automation. Abandoned cart can be a series: each message has its own delay, from 15 minutes up to 1 week (15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, 8 hours, 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, or 1 week).

The same screen also has:

  • Abandoned browse
  • Abandoned checkout
  • Welcome series
  • Reengagement

Welcome and reengagement messages can set their own landing page.

  • Each time the shopper changes their cart (adds, removes, or updates an item), the timer restarts.
  • If the cart is emptied or the shopper completes checkout, the reminder is cancelled.
  • If the shopper signs out, the reminder is cancelled.

Products on your cart block list are ignored. See Cart & Checkout.

App Clip reminders use the same message types, and only delays of 8 hours or less. Edit those under Engage → App Clips → Push Notifications. App Clips are iOS only.

What happens when a shopper taps it

The app opens with the cart showing, ready for checkout.

Good to know

  • Abandoned cart notifications don't appear in the in-app Notifications inbox.
  • Turn messages on or off, and edit the copy and delay, in Engage → Automation.
  • Deliveries, taps, and attributed sales are reported in your Kin dashboard. See Understanding Your Analytics Dashboard. On iOS, delivery totals include these on-device reminders (scheduled minus cancelled). On Android, delivery totals count remote pushes.
