Kin: Cart & Checkout

Kin app

This article applies to the Kin app (now part of Reactiv). If your app was built with Reactiv, see the Reactiv support docs instead.

One cart, shared with your website

The Kin app doesn't keep a separate cart. It uses your Shopify store's cart, so the cart is always the same across product pages, the cart sheet and checkout inside the app.

  • The app watches cart changes (add, update, remove, clear) on your website pages and refreshes the cart.
  • The cart icon badge in the top bar shows the total number of items.
  • Shoppers can open the cart as a sheet, change quantities and remove items. The badge stays in sync.
  • Signing out of the app clears the cart.

Cart settings

Set these in Build → Navigation → Cart:

  • Ignored product IDs: products excluded from cart features such as the badge count and abandoned cart notifications. Use them for items like gift wrap, shipping protection, or free gifts. IDs are numeric Shopify product IDs.
  • Open cart after update: when this is on, the cart sheet opens after a shopper adds an item.

Checkout

  • Shoppers start checkout from a product page or the cart, using Check out, Buy with Shop Pay or other payment options.
  • Checkout uses your Shopify checkout, so your payment methods, discounts and checkout settings apply.
  • Checkout opens right away. If the checkout page sends a shopper to a sign-in page, the app shows its own sign-in screen and then returns to checkout.
  • If a shopper tries to leave checkout, they're asked to confirm.
  • After a completed order, the shopper sees a confirmation screen with a Done button.

Abandoned carts

If a shopper leaves items in their cart, the app can send them a reminder. See Abandoned Cart Notifications.

How app orders appear in Shopify

Depending on how checkout is set up for your app, orders placed in the app appear in Shopify under the Kin sales channel or under your online store. Either way, Kin analytics identify app orders using a referral code added to app traffic. See Order & Push Attribution.
