Kin: What You Can Change Without an App Update

Kin app

This article applies to the Kin app (now part of Reactiv). If your app was built with Reactiv, see the Reactiv support docs instead.

Most Kin app settings are loaded from the Kin servers each time the app starts. You can change them at any time without a new App Store or Google Play release. A few settings are part of the app build and need a new app version.

tip

Changes take effect the next time a shopper fully closes and reopens the app, not partway through a session. If you've changed a setting and don't see it, force-close the app and open it again.

Changes that don't need an app update

Some of these are in the Kin dashboard. For others, email support@reactiv.ai and the team will update them for you.

  • Branding: color palette, component colors, fonts, and button styles, in Build → Theme. See Branding, Colors & Fonts.
  • Logo shown inside the app.
  • Tabs: which tabs are shown, including For You, Shop, Account, Notifications, Forum, and custom web tabs, and which one opens first. Up to five tabs. See More Menu & Navigation.
  • For You section headers: on or off.
  • More menu sections and links, in Build → Navigation → Menu. See More Menu & Navigation.
  • Shortcut pills on the Shop tab, in Build → Navigation → Shortcuts.
  • Customer service chat button, in Build → Navigation → Customer Service Chat. See How Your Website Appears in the App.
  • Onboarding:
    • Require sign-in, which hides Continue as guest. Email support@reactiv.ai to change this.
    • A background image or video, in Build → Theme → Onboarding.
    • Passwordless sign-in on or off, and whether to ask for the shopper's name when they register, in Build → Theme → Account.
  • App copy: the title and subtitle on the onboarding, sign-in, create account, and notification opt-in screens, and the abandoned cart notification text.
  • Notification opt-in image: a custom image for the notification prompt.
  • Automated notifications, including abandoned cart, in Engage → Automation. See Abandoned Cart Notifications.
  • Cart settings, in Build → Navigation → Cart. See Cart & Checkout.
  • Website elements hidden in the app, in Build → Mapping → Html Config. See How Your Website Appears in the App.
  • App Tracking Transparency prompt: on or off. Email support@reactiv.ai to change this. Cookie categories are in Settings → Integrations → Cookies.
  • Forced updates: a minimum app version for each platform. Shoppers on an older version are asked to update before they continue.

Changes that need a new app version

These are built into the app, so the Kin team publishes a new version to change them:

  • App display name.
  • App icon.
  • Launch screen.
  • Light and dark wordmark logos used at build time.
  • Your app's deep link URL scheme and universal link domains.
  • iPad support.
