Kin: Setting Up Your Apple and Google Developer Accounts

Kin app

This article applies to the Kin app (now part of Reactiv). If your app was built with Reactiv, see the Reactiv support docs instead.

Your Kin app is published under your brand's own developer accounts. Apple's guidelines don't allow template-based apps to be published from a provider's account, so the account must belong to your company. Register both accounts as an Organization (not as an Individual), then invite the Kin team as Admin so they can build and submit releases for you.

When a step below asks you to invite the Kin team, use the email address your onboarding contact gives you. If you don't have it, email support@reactiv.ai.

Apple

1. Get a D-U-N-S number

Apple uses a D-U-N-S number to verify your company as a legal entity before you can create an Organization account. If your company doesn't have one, request it for free through Apple's developer site. It can take several business days to arrive.

2. Enroll in the Apple Developer Program as an Organization

  1. Go to developer.apple.com and enroll as an Organization.
  2. Membership costs $99 USD per year.
  3. Turn on auto-renewal. If your membership lapses, your app can be removed from the App Store and updates can't be published.

3. Invite the Kin team to App Store Connect

  1. Sign in to App Store Connect and open Users and Access.
  2. Click + to add a user.
  3. Enter first name Kin, last name Technologies, and the email address from your onboarding contact.
  4. Select the Admin role and send the invitation.

4. Request App Store Connect API access

The Kin team uses the App Store Connect API to upload builds automatically. Only the Account Holder can request access.

  1. In App Store Connect, go to Users and Access and open the Integrations tab (App Store Connect API).
  2. You'll see "Permission is required to access the App Store Connect API". Click Request Access.
  3. Accept the agreement and click Submit.

The Kin team then creates the API and push notification keys it needs.

Google Play

1. Register a Google Play developer account as an Organization

  1. Go to play.google.com/console/signup and choose an Organization account.
  2. Registration is a one-time $25 USD fee.

2. Invite the Kin team to Play Console

  1. In Play Console, open Users and permissions.
  2. Click Invite new users and enter the email address from your onboarding contact.
  3. Grant Admin (all permissions) and send the invitation.

3. Create a Firebase project

Android push notifications are delivered through Firebase Cloud Messaging.

  1. Go to the Firebase console and create a new project for your app.
  2. Open Project settings → Users and permissions and add the Kin team's Android address as an Editor.

The Kin team then connects the project to your app for push notifications.

4. Already on Google Play? Request an upload key reset

If you're replacing an existing Android app, Google needs to accept a new upload key before the Kin team can publish updates.

  • Only the owner of the Google Play developer account can request the reset. This is usually someone at your brand.
  • Google can take several days to process it, so request it as early as possible.
  • Your onboarding contact will send the upload certificate to include with the request.

FAQ

Why does the Kin team need Admin access? Admin access lets the team create your app record, manage keys and certificates, and upload and submit builds without needing you for every release.

Can we keep our existing app listing? Yes. Send your current bundle ID / package ID and version, and the Kin app is published as an update to that listing.

Will the app go live as soon as it's approved? No. iOS releases are submitted for manual release and Android can use Managed Publishing, so you can time the launch.
